This past summer, while I tried to avoid sunburn and learned how to clam dig, a scene for a story kept coming to mind. At the time, I was editing Loving Lachlyn and Every Dawn Forever, planning a marketing blitz, setting up a Facebook Street Team, and generally just super busy so I tried to shove the scene to the back of my brain for another, less busy time. But it persisted. I couldn’t shake the idea of a human man going against a group of male werewolves to protect the she-wolf that he loves. So often, I’ve read stories of mixed supernatural relationships (and have written my share of them) where the supernatural creature in the story is the guy and the human is the girl. I thought, “what if I switched them? what if the guy was the human and the girl was the wolf?” Which is where the storyline for the first of my new series, Mate of Her Heart, comes from. In this book, she-wolf Eveny is in love with a human male named Luke, but according to pack law, it’s forbidden for them to be together. This situation begged the question…what would you do for love? If being with the only person you’ve ever loved meant you would lose your family, could you do it?
I wrote this 33,000 word novella in three weeks. It’s one of the fastest books I’ve ever written, because the story just flowed and I couldn’t stop myself from writing. I love this story and the characters that are quickly endearing themselves to me. This series is different from The Wolf’s Mate – the laws that apply to wolves are different in Wilde Creek – and I hope that you enjoy it! The book was edited by the fabulous Alexis Arendt at Word Vagabond. The gorgeous cover was done by the absurdly talented Ramona Lockwood of Romance Book Cover Designs. Christmas really snuck up on me this year! I feel like I just got the Thanksgiving dishes put away and now I’m getting out the Christmas plates.
when we exchange gifts and then watch my all-time favorite holiday movie, A Christmas Story. There’s really nothing I like more than snuggling on the couch with my kiddos and hubby, a roaring fire in the fireplace, hot chocolate (with extra marshmallows) in hand, and the dogs nearby enjoying their new toys, while the movie plays.
